SHAUNIE’S HOME COURT

SHAUNIE’S HOME COURT is VH1’s half hour comedy following the life of Basketball Wives star Shaunie O’Neal along with her family. Thrust into the limelight with her high profile marriage and divorce from NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal, Shaunie is much more than just glitz and glamour. Her days are spent wrangling five children ranging from the ages of 19 to 10 years old.

It takes a village to raise five rowdy kids, so Shaunie has a two highly lovable, yet extremely inappropriate, nannies to help. Keyonna, who has been a friend of Shaunie’s since high school, and Robert, Keyonna’s younger uncle, are like extended members of the family. The two have been with the kids since birth and although they mean well, oftentimes they find themselves caught up in the kids’ antics as well, leaving Shaunie to feel like she’s raising seven kids as opposed to five. Needless to say, Shaunie has her hands full trying to keep everyone on her court in line.

EXTREME PHOBIAS, EXTREME CURES

Extreme Phobias, Extreme Cures is a new 6 x 60 series for Sky 1 that sees people with the same crippling fear or phobia join forces to overcome their problem once and for all. Each week, 10 fellow sufferers will take part in an extreme form of exposure therapy that will see them face their worst nightmares. They have just three days to tackle their fear head on… But if they succeed it will change their lives forever.

According to research, combining exposure therapy with the support of a group is a potent treatment for many problems and it’s believed that the results can be rapid and long lasting. Extreme Phobias, Extreme Cures will take this proven approach and apply it to phobias, with dramatic results. Not only will the contributors learn new coping strategies, but many will be cured completely and permanently; they are also likely to make lasting friendships as they bond with people who share their phobias.

Each group will be led by an industry expert. Two psychologists, Richard Reid and Dr Becky Spelman, are also on hand to help as emotions and tensions run high.

OLD SCHOOL

This autumn, the Hairy Bikers will take on one of their biggest challenges. Motivated by their own experiences caring for elderly parents and by what they saw filming Meals on Wheels, they want to address what can be done to support elderly people who feel isolated and lonely, and make them feel more valued in society. With more than half of over-75s living alone and five million older people saying TV is their main form of company, this is not just desperately sad but has a real impact on public health as there are proven links between loneliness and poor health.

Inspired by schemes around the world including the USA and Japan where pensioners are brought together with children, with the old helping and teaching the young and the young helping the old feel loved and valued, the Hairy Bikers will create and drive an ambitious and potentially revolutionary experiment: bringing up to 30 retirees into a secondary school where they could make a huge difference and, over the school’s autumn term, transform both the school and the lives of the pensioners.

If this works, it could be adopted permanently by the school and inspire change across the country. This series is about two generations who have more in common with each other than they might at the start think – both groups are undervalued and often ignored by the rest of society, neither considered truly responsible for themselves – joining forces to demonstrate what they can achieve together.
